Google Ads API moves to two releases per month with a published 2026-2027 sunset schedule
On October 12, 2026 the Google Ads Developer Blog announced that, starting with v26, the Google Ads API moves to two releases per month. There will still be four major (potentially breaking) releases per year; all other releases are non-breaking minor versions. Each major version remains available for one year and minor versions sunset with their parent major version. Release blog posts and YouTube live events drop to twice a quarter. Google published projected releases (v26.1 in October 2026, v26.2 in November 2026, v26.3 in December 2026 which may be skipped, v27 in January 2027) and projected sunsets (v23 in February 2027, v24 in May 2027, v25 in August 2027, v26 in November 2027).
Impact
Tools and in-house integrations built on the Google Ads API get a predictable one-year lifetime per major version and more frequent non-breaking feature drops. Teams still on v23 or v24 now have firm projected deadlines to plan migrations, and release monitoring needs to follow a faster cadence.
Recommendations
- Map every integration to its current API version and plan upgrades ahead of the projected v23 (Feb 2027) and v24 (May 2027) sunsets
- Subscribe to the Google Ads Developer Blog and release notes to catch minor releases twice a month
- Prefer upgrading directly to v26 or later to benefit from the one-year major-version window
