Google allows personalized alcohol ads on YouTube inventory from October 30, 2026
Starting October 30, 2026, Google updated its personalized advertising policy for YouTube inventory to allow alcohol advertising where locally permitted. Advertisers can personalize ads on YouTube inventory for alcohol, alcohol-related products and alcohol alternative beverages. The change was published on September 3, 2026. Personalized alcohol ads are not yet available in Egypt, India, Indonesia and Poland. Google continues to prohibit targeting of health information related to alcohol, maintains age restrictions, does not personalize ads for minors, and all alcohol ads remain subject to Google advertising policies and local law.
Impact
Alcohol and no-alcohol beverage brands can now use audience-based targeting, such as remarketing and audience segments, on YouTube instead of relying mainly on contextual and demographic approaches. This opens more efficient reach and frequency planning for drinks brands, subject to local law. In markets with strict alcohol advertising rules, including several EU countries, legal compliance remains the advertiser's responsibility.
Recommendations
- Review YouTube campaigns for alcohol and alcohol-alternative clients and test audience-based targeting where local law permits
- Validate local legal requirements per market before activating personalized alcohol ads
- Keep age targeting and brand safety settings in place and document compliance checks
- Exclude Egypt, India, Indonesia and Poland from personalized alcohol strategies for now
